Writing a Living Will in Arizona
A living will is a document that states an individual's wishes about treatment at the end of life. At Gorman & Jones, PLC, we do not use standard forms to execute a living will. Rather, our living will attorneys Matthew M. Jones and Andrew P. Gorman take the time to address clients' needs and anxieties about care at the end of life.
We help clients sort through emotional issues
We understand that there are often conflicting feelings involved in making decisions about end-of-life care. We listen, and help people sort through the emotional issues to arrive at a plan for their treatment during their final illness. Options in a living will
The purpose of a living will is to allow an individual to specify the type of medical care that should be administered under named conditions. For example, a person can choose to receive comfort care only if he or she is in a terminal condition. The person could also describe certain conditions, such as coma or pregnancy that might require a different approach to treatment. In short, the person drafting the living will can be as specific as needed to get exactly the kind of care they want.
Powers of Attorney
In addition, an individual, through a medical or health care power of attorney, can name an individual to make decisions about care for them should they become incapacitated. This durable power of attorney can be limited to health care matters only.
We take care to incorporate fundamental beliefs into living wills
Our attorneys are sensitive to the religious beliefs of our clients. The diversity of views on prolonging life is difficult to squeeze into a pre-written form. Rather, we listen to what our clients say to us about their beliefs about the end of life, and incorporate those beliefs into their living wills.
